About Bio ​ Originally from Austin, Texas, I grew up in Kerrville, Texas. I borrowed a well-used 35 mm in 1974. The weight of the camera and sound of the shutter felt natural. ​ A college art student trip to New York City trip in 1979 introduced me to big city architecture and crowds of people unlike me. It made a deep impression. In 1981, I graduated with a BA in Art from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Then many years were spent working and raising a family in Austin, Texas. The transition from Austin back to Kerrville in 2013 included buying my first digital camera and learning Photoshop. A whole world of creativity rushed in. Photography was empowering and liberating. I named my business Blue Bench Studio. From my home studio, I sold prints in galleries and shops and entered local juried exhibits. Early subjects were anything within driving distance of home. My first trip to Chicago in 2015 re-opened the big city experience. I gravitate toward people in architectural settings. Vivian Maier and Robert Frank are influences in this area. Visiting Paris in 2018 gave me a whole new perspective with its art and architecture. That’s not to say that city hoping is my only pursuit. I find subjects everywhere. Covid put the brakes on everything, especially travel. Motivation and creativity went dormant until summer of 2023. I was invited to exhibit with a group of artists at the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center. I accepted the invitation, thinking I had little to contribute, but that I needed a push to get out of my slump. It worked, and my brain started thinking in creative terms again. ​ Evolving as an artist, there are other mediums to explore. I still have hundreds of images to resurrect through editing and many more to take.
